03.06.2025
The Geography Laboratory of the Center for Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) hosted on June 3 a group of geography teachers from a number of schools in Yerevan, Ararat and Armavir regions.
The goal was to introduce the guests to the lab’s latest equipment, specifically, a meteorological station for weather observations and number of cartographic devices, including a curvimeter and a compass, which are used for orientation on the terrain, for measuring the length of curved lines, particularly on maps, plans, and globes.
Marietta Muradyan, Acting Head of the Chair of Geography and its Teaching Methods, Associate Professor Samvel Kroyan, and Assistant Professor Varduhi Hovhannisyan conducted a practical masterclass for teachers using the modern equipment of the newly-opened lab.
The teachers also had an opportunity to work with the laboratory's Global Positioning System (GPS) devices used to determine geographic coordinates, specifically latitude, longitude, and altitude.
The guests said the visit to the University was effective: in addition to the practical part, a number of issues and challenges to teaching geography were discussed. The teachers voiced hope that more meetings of the same format will be organized in the future.
Let us remind you that a unique center for excellence in the STEM discipline opened at ASPU later last year which has state-of-the-art laboratories intended for students and teachers undergoing training at ASPU.
