The World Bank Team Visited the educational institutions with the representatives of the Center for Education Projects

On June 3, the World Bank team, accompanied by CEP PIU representatives visited Yerevan High School No. 139 after K. Demirchyan and Vanadzor High School No13 after S. Naldranyan, Lori region. Monitoring of the implemented and current work, carried out within the framework of the World Bank co-financed "Education Improvement Additional Financing" loan project, was in the context of the visits. In Particular Task Team Leader Shizuka Kunimoto, Consultant Anna Malkhasyan, Consultant Aleksandr Tovmasyan,Environmental Specialist Lusine Gevorgyan , Social development specialist Sonya Msryan as well as Environmental advisor to the Center for Education Projects PIU Anna Karapetyan , Head of 1.2 sub-component Grigor Baghdasaryan were the participants of the visits. The World Bank delegation started their working visit in Vanadzor high school No13 after S. Naldranyan, Lori region.This high school is one of those 4 high schools that will be completely rehabilitated/constructed in the frames of “Education Improvement Additional Financing " loan project. The Delegation met with the constructors and discussed various questions related to seismic strengthening of the building and to overall rehabilitation activities. One more time the strict deadlines had been emphasized. The next stop was in Yerevan High School No. 139 after K. Demirchyan, which will be completely constructed in the frames of the project by December 2025.It should be noted that within the framework of “Education Improvement Additional Financing " loan project reconstruction activities have started in 2 more high schools: in Artashat and in Ashtarak.
It should be mentioned that reconstruction activities are carried out according to seismic safety standards. Note that 4 schools were selected on the criteria developed by the Ministry of education, science, culture and sport . During the visits the representatives of WB and PIU examined the quality of the construction works. They also toured across the construction site, discussed a number of issues related to design and construction activities. As a result of monitoring the representatives of CEP PIU mentioned that the works for the strengthening of buildings have been completed. A number of questions were asked about the measures envisaged by the environmental and social management plan. Emphasizing the importance of environmental and social studies during project development, Environmental advisor to the Center for Education Projects PIU Anna Karapetyan added that these potential impacts are temporary in nature and mainly predicted to occur during the construction phase. It is generally expected that the potential adverse environmental impacts associated with construction and renovation works will be small, short-term and localized. "Compliance with the requirements of the environmental and social management plan during construction works will prevent or minimize potential adverse impacts," said the Environmental Specialist. Other issues of interest were also discussed during the visit.
