07.08.2020

On July 30 of 2019, within the framework of the second main stage of the Competitive Innovation Fund of the "Education Improvement" loan program, grant agreements have been signed with six universities, with which theylaunched the implementation of grant projects. These universities are;National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, Yervan State University,Brusov State University, Yerevan State Medical University after M. Heratsi, Russian -Armenian University, Armenian National Agrarian University. The grant projects implemented by two of the mentioned universities; Yervan State University and Yerevan State Medical University after M. Heratsi, are consortium projects with partners from research institutes.
It is worth to mention that the directions of the above programs are in line with the basic scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical (STEM) direction set by the CIF Coordinating Council for the current stage.
Now, a year after the launch of the grant projects, the grantee universities are recording a number of indicators of progress. It should be noted that for the creation of laboratories as well as of other infrastructures being established within the framework of the projects, the grantee universities have already allocated, provided and renovated appropriate areas, as well as obtained a part of the property and equipment envisaged by the project.Innovative programs implemented by universities are widely used not only in terms of strengthening their educational, scientific and research capacities, providing a practical basis for teaching and learning, but also in terms of providing university-labor market, education-science-business relations.
The mission of the existing infrastructures is to create bridges between education, science and production, based on the current international experience and approaches to the organization of education and implementation of scientific research.
Let us state that the creation of educational content is also an important component of the grant programs. As for the content of the grant programs implemented by the six grantee universities in the above-mentioned stage, it should be noted that within their framework it is planned to create innovation centers equipped with modern equipment, as well as to develop and implement new educational content. In particular, within the framework of the grant project implemented by the NUACA, it is envisaged to modernize the "Construction and exploitation of transport routes" educational program with the introduction of a laboratory equipped with the latest equipment.YSU grant program aims to create a scientific-educational center for quality control and monitoring of medicines, equipped with modern laboratory analytical equipment, which will enable the preparation of specialists in the field of newly developed drugs and their structural components, as well as for the research and evaluation of the quality of medicines already sold on the market in accordance with international standards; at the same time introducing the corresponding master's program. The program implemented by Brusov State University stands out with its innovation, the main goals of which are to develop technology-based language and social education and research in Armenia in the context of global developments, prepare vital specialists in the fields of computational linguistics, simultaneous translation, education assessment and testing; having in the base the implementation of technology-based cross-sectoral educational programs, as well as to develop the full use of Armenian language in the digital environment and software, to introduce tools for assessing the level of knowledge of the Armenian language.Within the framework of the grant project a "Scientific-Educational Center for Brain Basic Research" will be established at YSMU, equipped with modern medical laboratory equipment. "Center for Educational and Scientific Excellence in Genetic Engineering, Genome Editing, 3rd Generation Sequencing" equipped with modern super-powerful equipment will be created at RAU, with new content of improved and embedded education. As for ANAU, it envisages the establishment of a "Center for Veterinary Education Excellence", which, in accordance with modern requirements, will be a stimulus for the reform and modernization of educational and scientific processes in this field, will train competitive specialists in the field andwill strenghten the university-labor market relations. Thus, we can state once again that the programs implemented in the universities within the framework of the CIF, being innovative in nature, greatly contribute to the development of the capacity of higher educational institutions, enabling the latter to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation relations with the business sector, to carry out entrepreneurial andinnovative activities in universities and to realize their further commercialization, as well as to implement programs of strategic importance for the state. We are sure that the further indicators of the efficiency of the work done will be the use of the created opportunities, the promotion of the participation of young specialists in them.Laboratories and centers of excellence equipped with modern equipment as a result of continuous cooperation between the "Center for Education Projects" PIU and higher education institutionswill become a new quality standard for these areas in the near future.
